A 3-piece welded can consists of a can body and a top and bottom end. A precisely cut, rectangular piece of food grade steel is shaped into a cylinder and is welded closed via a vertical side seam. To further ensure product integrity, the ends are attached to the can body via a process called double seaming, which creates a “hermetic” seal. The bottom end is attached at a Silgan facility, and the top end is seamed in place at the processing plant after the product has been filled.
