Hormel Foods awards Silgan Containers its Spirit of Excellence Award for fourteenth consecutive year

Woodland Hills, Calif. (July 26, 2007) —Silgan Containers was recognized by Hormel Foods Corporation with its Spirit of Excellence Award for the fourteenth consecutive year.

“Silgan Containers has consistently provided us with great packaging solutions and service. We are pleased to present them with another excellence award,” says James P. Snee, director of purchasing, Hormel Foods.

Silgan supplies a wide variety of metal and plastic packaging to Hormel Foods for products including SPAM®, Dinty Moore® Beef Stew, Mary Kitchen® Hash, Hormel® Chili and Stagg® Chili.

To qualify for the Spirit of Excellence Award, suppliers must maintain a minimum Supplier Rating Index score of 92 over a 12-month period. Criteria factored into this minimum score include: ability to meet requirements, timely deliveries, provide accurate administrative support and maintain inventories. Additional criteria that are factored include: customer support, awareness of environmental concerns and sales representative performance.

Silgan first won the award for its performance in 1993, and has continued to earn it consecutively since then. Additionally, Silgan was the recipient last year of the Hormel’s No. 1 Award for the third time. This is an honor that is only given every five years to suppliers meeting stringent five point requirements.
